The Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic broke out in China last year and has affected more than 2000 people and is still counting globally till now which resulted in many deaths. It’s closely related to the SARS virus that was responsible for the death of almost 800 people in 2002.
What is Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic ?
The Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic is the disease that emerged in Wuhan China in December 2019.
The symptoms include Cough, Fever and Shortness of breath. In some cases this COVID-19 can be severe and cause death. It spreads very fast from one person to another and can be diagnosed with laboratory tests.
There is no vaccine for this virus yet. The best way to avoid it is prevention.
How can it spread?
The virus can be passed on when someone is exposed to the infected person’s secretions, for example: a sneeze, cough or handshake could very well expose you to it, even touching infected objects.
What are the symptoms?
The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has mild symptoms which include a sore throat, runny nose, cough and a fever that might last a few days. The young and elderly could experience serious illnesses like “pneumonia” or “bronchitis” or breathing difficulties.
In some cases the disease can be fatal. The elderly and people with other medical conditions (such as heart disease or asthma or diabetes are more vulnerable to becoming severely ill.
There is currently no vaccine for this disease. You may reduce the risk of getting infected by doing the following.
1) Frequently wash your hands with soap & water or clean them with alcohol based hand rub soaps for at least 20 seconds.
2) Avoid getting close to people who are sick and avoid unnecessary physical contact with people such as handshakes coughing into the bend of your elbow etc.
3) Avoid touching your eyes, mouth or nose unnecessarily.
4) Keep use of hand sanitizers and wear a mask at all times.
These small things will surely reduce your chances of getting infected.
As per now we don’t have any specific medicine or treatment to prevent Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic. The race is on to find a cure for this disease.
Doctors can relieve the pain / symptoms by prescribing pain or fever medications. But the best way is if you feel like having mild symptoms you can recover by staying home getting rest & sleep and drinking plenty of liquids. However, You can also use a room humidifier or just take a hot shower to help ease your sore throat.
